Closing Reflection
Thank You for Your Visit
History has more than one truth.
More often than not, history is written by a dominant culture. Their stories become known as “truth.” Our First American truths consider our beliefs and our perspectives. They are often in contrast with what the majority of us were taught in school and see in popular culture.
We share our truths to expand what is remembered as history. We hope your experiences here offer new insights and new perspectives.
We at First Americans Museum thank you for allowing us to share our stories from the 39 tribal nations in Oklahoma.
We honor you for your time and leave you with many blessings.
Let us continue to share this expansive place of dreams and promise, where we live and walk together on good red earth. Let us remember to live as good relatives. You are earth. So am I.
— Dr. Henrietta Mann (Cheyenne), educator, historian, and cultural knowledge keeper, in a speech to the Oklahoma State Legislature, February 12, 2020
Now that you have learned about the history and values of First American peoples, you will revisit Indigenous Brilliance by Joseph Erb and the organizer you completed at the beginning of this experience.
