Tribal Nations
One Place, Many Nations
67 tribal nations were removed from their homelands to Indian Territory. There are 38 federally recognized tribes in Oklahoma today, with Yuchi (Euchee) Nation making 39 total sovereign Native nations.
Historic removals established a unique cultural community, even from other states across North America. In the time since arriving in the 19th century, our resilient ancestors laid a foundation so our cultures, languages, and knowledge can be carried forward by each generation.
